Symbols

The following table describes the different types of symbols that can be used in the Flowchart Editor.

Symbol Description
Assignment statement Representation of an assignment statement in the flowchart.
Sub-procedure Representation of a sub procedure in the flowchart.
For statement Representation of a “for” statement in the flowchart. Logic inside this statement will execute when a counter variable is within a given range.
Foreach statement Representation of a “foreach” statement in the flowchart. Logic inside this statement will execute for each iteration in a collection.
While statement Representation of a “while” statement in the flowchart. Logic inside this statement will execute while a condition evaluates to true.
If statement Representation of an “if” statement in the flowchart. Logic inside this statement will execute based on a condition.
Else If statement Representation of an “else if” statement in the flowchart. Valid inside “if” statement. Logic inside this statement will execute based on a condition and when the preceding conditions have failed in the parent “if” statement.
Try statement Representation of a “try” statement in the flowchart. Logic inside this statement will be executed until an exception is thrown.
Catch statement Representation of “catch” statement in the flowchart. Valid inside “try” statements. Logic inside this statement will execute if a given exception has been thrown by the parent “try” statement.
Switch statement Representation of “switch” statement in the flowchart. This statement can encapsulate many “case” statements for varying conditions and an optional “default” statement.
Case statement Representation of “case” statement in the flowchart. Valid inside “switch” statement. Logic inside this statement will execute when a condition is met.
Default statement Representation of “default” statement in the flowchart. Valid inside “switch” statements. Logic inside this condition will execute if none of the “case” conditions were met.
